ITU Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Student Activities

ITU Faculty of Mechanical Engineering carries out activities and innovative studies in different fields with 3 student clubs and 7 project teams. Students in clubs and teams represent our faculty with their work on national and international platforms.

ITU Cezeri Team at Teknofest 2025!

The Cezeri Team showcased their project, developed as a result of long-term efforts and disciplined teamwork, at TEKNOFEST 2025, Turkey's largest technology and innovation festival. We congratulate the team and wish them continued success.

BIAS Engineering is in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering!

The final event of the Computer-Aided Engineering Projects Competition, organized for the third time this year by BIAS Engineering, was held at our Faculty. We thank all participants for their participation and wish them continued success.

According to the URAP (University Ranking by Academic Performance) 2024-2025 World Subject Rankings, ITU achieved the highest ranking among all universities in Turkey in the field of Mechanical Engineering.

ITU Mechanical Engineering Team Receives Award at TUSAŞ LIFT UP Closing Conference

Within the scope of the Mechanical Engineering Design Project course at the ITU Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Özge Dönmez and Taha Kandemir, under the academic supervision of our esteemed faculty member Prof. Dr. Bayram Şahin, received second place among 222 projects nationwide at the 2024-2025 LIFT UP Closing Conference Award Ceremony for their project, “Design of a High-Performance Heat Exchanger with Additive Manufacturing Methods,” supported by the TÜBİTAK 2209-B and TUSAŞ LIFT UP programs.

TUBITAK ARDEP Programme

Our esteemed faculty member, Prof. Dr. Mesut Kırca, has been awarded funding under the TÜBİTAK-ARDEB “Scientific and Technological Research Projects Support Program (1001)” for his project “Grid-Based Representation and Generative Artificial Intelligence Approach for Mechanical Design of Shell Structures”. We congratulate our faculty member and wish him continued success.

ITU Mechanical Engineering is on the list of the 2% Most Influential Scientists

Stanford's Top 2% Scientists list, which uses data from the Scopus database to analyze the impact of citations across multiple scientific fields and subfields, includes our faculty members Prof. Dr. Adnan Midilli and retired faculty members Prof. Dr. Metin Gürgöze, Prof. Dr. Celaletdin Ergun, and Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin Erdoğan. We congratulate them.

EU Coordination Support for the I-TEXGEO Project

The project titled “IoT Supported Electronic Geotextiles for Sustainable and Smart Precision Agriculture” (I-TEXGEO), led by Prof. Dr. Senem Kurşun and Prof. Dr. İlker Murat Koç, has been awarded European Union funding for a duration of 48 months with a total budget of €1,683,360.

Prof. Dr. Akife Nilüfer Eğrican receives ITU Service Award

Prof. Dr. Akife Nilüfer Eğrican, who served as Dean between 1996 and 2000, was honored with the ITU Service Award for her pioneering contributions in academia, industry, and the field of energy.

Two Names from ITU Mechanical Engineering Faculty on the List of the 2% Most Influential Scientists

Stanford's Top 2% Scientists list is based on an analysis of citation impact across multiple scientific fields and subfields using data from the Scopus database. Our retired faculty members, Prof. Dr. Metin Gürgöze and Prof. Dr. Celaletdin Ergun, were included on the list. We congratulate them.

2025 ITU Academic Performance Awards Announced

The Istanbul Technical University Academic Performance Awards ceremony was held on June 4, 2025, at the Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center. Members of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering also received awards at the event.

On October 22nd In the scope of ITU Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Technology Seminars "Material Model Development for Polymers and Polymer Matrix Nanocomposites" seminar will be presented by Prof. Özgen Çolak Çakır.

2 Postdoctoral Researchers and 3 PhD Fellows Sought for a TÜBİTAK and EU-Funded Project

2 postdoctoral researchers and 3 PhD fellows are sought for a TÜBİTAK 2247-A and EU-funded project in the field of developing artificial intelligence-supported soil sensor technologies, led by Prof. Dr. Senem Kurşun from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at ITU. Selected candidates will be offered international research and international work opportunities within an interdisciplinary team led by Prof. Dr. Senem Kurşun.

Publications in National and International Journals
