Prof. Dr. Metin Gürgöze and Prof. Dr. Celaletdin Ergun, retired faculty members of the ITU Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, were included on the list of the most influential academics worldwide.

Stanford's Top 2% Scientists list is a new ranking that identifies the most cited scientists in their fields. It is based on an analysis of citation impact across multiple scientific fields and subfields using data from the Scopus database.

The ranking considers scientists who have published multiple highly cited articles. It assesses the citation impact of their work using various metrics, taking into account both career-long citation impact and impact in a single recent year. To determine selection, the list includes the top 100,000 scientists based on their composite indicators (c-score, self-citations and non-citations) or a percentile rank of 2% or higher in the subfield.
